Help Build Self-Esteem Through Discovering Your Temperament
Self-Esteem Help
One of the things that helped me build self-esteem was through discovering a little more about myself. I began to change my way of thinking concerning myself once I started to learn more about my temperament.
How can learning about your temperament improve your self-esteem, I would give you my example.
I'm an introvert, I'm very shy and feel very uncomfortable around people. I used to think that this was not normal. I compared myself to others who were extroverts, friendly, the center of attention and used to ask myself how come I can't be like them.
This always made me feel bad. To me this meant that there was something wrong with me and that I had to change. This thought created in me a sense of low-self-esteem and low self-image.
After learning about the four temperaments, I started to see that I was actually normal. That there was nothing wrong with me. Of course, there is always room for improvement but this pertains to everyone.
There are four temperaments, the phlegmatic, the melancholic, the sanguine and the choleric. It's also important to know that everyone has a combination of two or more of them, but there is always one that is dominant.
I'm not an expert on the temperaments but I did learn enough to change my way of thinking concerning my faults and through this knowledge also learned to step out of my comfort box.
The phlegmatic is an introvert, he doesn't like to be around a lot of people, but usually has a positive outlook in life.
The melancholic is an introvert, doesn't like to be around a lot of people, but usually has a negative outlook in life.
The sanguine is an extrovert, very friendly and likes to be the center of attention. They are very expressive in their emotions. When they're happy, they are overly happy and when they are sad, they are overly sad.
The choleric is an extrovert, also likes to be the center of attention but is very controlling. Everything has to be done their way and don't usually ask people to do things but just tell them to do it.
This is just a quick outlook on each temperament. They all have positive things to them and they all have negative things to them.
The point is to learn about your temperament, learn why you are the way you are. This knowledge can help you:
There are many books out there on the four temperaments, learn more about them. Learn more about yourself, this is a special key to the building of self-esteem.
